Dutch brand Timex in collaboration with Indian start-up Blink has introduced an activity tracker. Simply dubbed as Blink, the fitness watch features a metal body and leather or bracelet strap to choose from. Judging by the product images, Timex has done a good job in the design department.

The Blink sports a 0.9-inche OLED touchscreen. It has a 90 mAh battery and can be charged using microUSB port. Timex claims that the product can provide a backup of 10 days with moderate use.



In addition to fitness activity tracking, the Blink can be used for replying emails or SMS. It plays nice with Android and iOS devices. There’s even an SOS function that can send a distress signal to close contacts.

The Timex Blink with a leather strap is priced Rs 4,495. To buy it with a bracelet-style strap, you will have to pay Rs 4,995. The Blink activity tracker will be available from Timex showrooms. At this point, the Netherlands-based company does not seem to have plans to sell it online.

In watches, where the movement is typically concealed within a case, skeletonizing the caliber is both an art and a science. Essentially, the concept consists of stripping away as much metal as possible from each component of the caliber, then showcasing that bare-bones movement via sapphire crystals and casebacks.

Creating a skeletonized movement involves time and patience for the artistic portion, as the movement parts are almost always etched and engraved with elaborate motifs. Also, skeletonizing watches requires exceptional engineering when it comes to the technical elements.

The challenge is how to chisel away as much as 75 percent of the metal on each and every component – from wheels to gears, mainplates and bridges – while still maintaining its strength to properly perform its mechanical task. After all, the movement is a harmonious dance of mechanical parts that work together to track time and offer a myriad of other functions. This technical quest for bare-minimum looks leaves many watch brands turning to new materials, including sapphire disks, to help showcase the skeletonized watch.

Once all the tiny components have been cut away to as little metal as possible, the pieces must be polished and finished. It can take an engraver hundreds of hours to carve away the metal and meticulously finish the pieces with stunning guilloché, Côtes de Genève swirls, or other motifs.

Some brands use the skeletonization process to create exceptional new designs. Roger Dubuis, for instance, reveals stars and spider-web-like motifs in its collection of skeleton watches unveiled this year. In fact, for the Excalibur Automatic Skeleton carbon watch, the micro-rotor of the in-house-made movement and the star-shaped bridge come together for a strong visual appeal. Each of the 167 movement components is hand-finished and requires 530 hours of work to complete. Of those hours, 170 are dedicated to achieving the demanding criteria of the Poinçon de Genève.

Focusing on skeletonized watches since its inception almost 50 years ago, Swiss independent watch brand Armin Strom has perfected a technique that, instead of reducing the amount of parts, displays the many individual components with superb finishes. Such is the case with the brand’s Tourbillon Skeleton timepieces, particularly the 18K rose gold Tourbillon Skeleton Fire. The mechanical architecture of the manual-wind movement, with double-going barrel that offers a 10-day power reserve, is enhanced via three-dimensional brown PVD coating. Yet another strap...

but this time a waterproof silicon rubber strap with red stitching to pair with my Orient Ray Raven. Saw this unique strap a watch store and I just had to have it! This strap is very thick and very soft. It's a bit hard to wear though, but looks stunning.
It costs about MYR 45. At current dwindling exchange rates, I think that is like, USD 0.01 or something like that...

Blue-dialed Seiko 5 SNK793K1 Review

It's time for a review of my Seiko 5 SNK793. If you love blue dials, this model has a very nice dark-blue dial with a sunburst effect in the middle section. Being a Seiko 5, this has the following features standard;

- Automatic 7s26 movement, 21 Jewels
- Day/Date
- Some lume
- Hardlex crystal
- Display caseback
- Basic water resistance
Having a width of 36mm in diameter, the case has a big polished bezel around the extremely nice blue dial. The sides of the case and its lugs is brushed metal.

The hour and minute hands are a sword-style, in polished metal with lume. The seconds hand is a very thin and painted white, and along with the white day/date wheel, and this white goes very well with the blue dial.

The crown is located on the 4 o'clock of the dial. Pulling out once changes the day and date by turning it clockwise or counter-clockwise. Being a Seiko5, the crown is unsigned, and far too small. I also find that because it is so recessed into the case, even pulling it out to change the time while the watch is on the wrist is hard to do. It would be easier to take off the watch and set the date and time from there.



I put a dark brownish-purple croc leather strap on it with a deployant clasp, and this made the blue dial watch look so much more casual. I think it would also look great with a tan strap as well. In fact - this would look great with almost any kind of strap.

It's very easy to see why this model is so popular. Did I mention the nice soothing blue dial?

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Watch In Steel Hands-On

Blink, and you might miss 2017’s subtle updates to the Royal Oak Chronograph collection, but to eagle-eyed Audemars Piguet fans, these could be considered significant edits that bring a healthy dose of modernity and maybe just a touch of controversy to the classic spirit of the Swiss watchmaker’s most popular sport watch – and we’re not just referring to the sweet new bi-color ‘panda’ style dials.

Let’s back up a bit though to SIHH earlier this year, when AP had not one, but a slew of new additions to the Royal Oak line – including the show-stopping Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar with a full ceramic bracelet. But there was a method to the Royal Oak madness this year, as the Gerald Genta-designed icon happens to be celebrating its 40th anniversary since being first introduced in precious metal, and its 20th anniversary since coming to life in three-register chronograph form in 1997.





In its two decades of service, the Royal Oak chronograph has understandably seen a small number of iterations over the years (most recently back in 2012), but this time around, the edits in question are all about simplifying the dial, boosting contrast and returning to the visual aesthetic that made the Royal Oak Chronograph a winner with fans in the first place. Most notably, this refers to 39mm references dating back to 2008 – at which time, homage was being paid to even earlier vintage Royal Oak references, making these new chronographs almost an homage to an homage, but that’s probably besides the point.



These throwback touches start with the registers which have been slightly edited – most notably the 6 and 9:00 sub-dials which have been enlarged for better legibility. There apparently wasn’t quite enough room on the dial to enlarge all three, so the running seconds sub-dial at 6:00 has been left the same size as before, while losing its Arabic numerals, resulting in a cleaner distinction of information between all three registers.





If you’ve already noted the new position of the date window, consider yourself among an extreme minority that noticed its subtle shift closer to the 5:00 index – a forced relocation as a result of the larger 3:00 sub-dial, and a further disruption to the overall symmetry (if the outgoing variant’s date window at 4:30 could ever be called ‘symmetrical’). Thankfully though, it’s subtle at worst, and likely to go unnoticed by all but a few.



The popularity of the Royal Oak Offshore diver is likely to blame for the third change in question, which introduces a slightly wider, more luminous applied hour markers. Just like the larger registers, this update aimed to boost overall legibility, and create a sportier, more dynamic aesthetic. Unfortunately, this also comes perhaps partially at the expense of the understated elegance that’s defined the Royal Oak Chronograph for the last two decades. Furthermore, the collective tweaks ultimately introduce a greater degree of asymmetry that might be a bit jarring to fans who favor the sleek indices and balance of the Royal Oak Chronograph’s current iteration.





Dial aesthetics aside, from a size and functionality standpoint, the incoming Royal Oak models are still 41mm, and are still fitted with the Caliber 2385, a column wheel chronograph movement with a long history deployed inside AP chronographs. However, the fact that both the movement and the case dimensions are exactly the same as the predecessor further the mystery as to why AP would tweak a winning formula, seemingly without clear rhyme or reason. If a sportier aesthetic were the goal, these alterations feel more like meddling, than a truly purposeful update. If the latter were the goal, it seems like a tonal sub-dial at 6:00 and a re-balancing of the date window would have granted a cool, “bi-compax” aesthetic that would have been a better means of celebrating the collection’s new contrasting sub-dials – but then again, that particular look is reserved for the nautically-driven Offshore chronograph, and so here we are – arguably “neither here nor there.”





But speaking of that look, as expected, the cases themselves exhibit Audemars’ exemplary finishing (an eight-stage process which includes many hours of cutting, sandblasting, lapping, polishing, and varnishing), and are fitted with that “Grand Tapisserie” waffled dial, still cut using a century-old pantograph machine. Now, unless you had them both together in the same room, on the wrist, the general aesthetic and wearing experience of the 2017 chronographs is consistent with the outgoing variants, which are a pleasure to wear. Ultimately, the most immediately noticeable change is the new ‘panda’ look, which is an undeniably excellent update, and one that should otherwise prove quite popular with Royal Oak fans new and old.





This is a wristwatch that’s so known to many of youpersonally, perhaps it doesn’t require much of an analysis — but this really is HODINKEE and you can believe you are gonna receive you. However, the ownership of AP is not necessarily the most interesting facet of the 175 year old manufacture — the question that matters is who purchases AP’s watches?

Like the name suggest, this particular model commemorates the character Yoda in the movie. This character is associated with the colour green. There is an engraving on the side of the case using the Star Wars universe "Aurebesh" language with the name of the character. Apart from that, a motif of the character is painted on the transparent case-back of the watch.
